This is it, the final week of Mystery Picture in Ireland 2008. Who will be named Ultimate Guesser of the World, But Primarily in the Irish Region? Your votes count; they count more than ever. Right. Now.
We’ve totaled everyone’s scores for the past nine weeks by giving one point to the last place finisher and increasing the point count by one until everyone was counted. For example, in week one there were only three guessers. Last place got one point, second place got two points, and first place got three points. In week 6, the winner got six points. Beating more people gets you more points. Honorable Mentions received three points because we like them too.
The scores are as follows:
- Adam – 24
- Caroline – 20
- Mom M. – 18
- Nicki – 17
- Aaron – 17
- Mom C. – 10
- Grandma – 10
- Nicholas – 10
- Brent – 9
- Chelsea – 5
- Derek – 3
In week ten, the gloves come off. We don’t have just one mystery picture, we have THREE MYSTERY PICTURES!!! Each picture will be scored the same way as the last nine weeks. It is to your benefit to have lots of guessers; more guessers means more points! Get your coworkers involved! Get your neighbors involved! Get your classmates involved!
And if that’s not enough to excite you, there will be trivia questions too! Each correct answer is worth points.
You will have until sometime December 16th to cast your votes. As always, leave your guesses (for pictures and questions) as comments below. Good luck, you’ll need it.
Picture 1: What is This?
Picture 2: What are they Looking At? Why the Expressions?
Picture 3: Where Do These Lead?
Question 1 (1 point) What is our favorite Irish grocery store?
Question 2 (2 points) How much does a trolley cost to rent?
Question 3 (2 points) What building are most of Mark’s classes in?
Question 4 (1 point) What does a “fancy dress” party mean?
Question 5 (2 points) Where did Michael Jackson dangle his baby?
Question 6 (2 points) Where is Katherine working after graduation?
Question 7 (1 point) How many European capitals have we visited?

Picture 1: This is a roadway blocking thing. What? It’s hanging on the fence, how can that be? Are the fences in Europe simply super strong? No, silly! This thing is made of plastic and is filled with water. It’s probably hanging on the fence to dry, just like a shirt. It also appears to interlock with other blocking things, so you can create a wall of awesome roadway-blocked-ness.

Picture 2: This is a variation of “The Three Monkeys”. The caption to this photo should be: “Hear no evil. Speak no evil. See no evil.” (Note the expressions.) Since the first two are not covering their eyes, they must be seeing evil. (Although this is a logical fallacy, I’ll stand by this guess.)
For bonus-standing: I believe that this was originally from some Japanese folklore kind of thing . . . although I don’t know enough to give you the actual Japanese script.

Picture 1: A giant lego that was blown off the playground. Perhaps something from the giant’s furniture store??
Picture 2: The expressions are: Hear no evil, speak no evil and see no evil. They are probably on a court or official building. (I have usually seen them being portrayed by monkeys…)
Question 6: John Deere in Ankeny, IA
December 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Question 5: In a hotel next to the Brandenburg Gate
Question 4: ‘Fancy Dress’ party means costume party

Picture 3: Probably a better question would be to whom are the steps leading? The answer to this question is: Santa. The answer to your question, however, is: To Santa’s castle. Castletroy . . . get it?!?! (Or at least, I assume that is the pun.)
The people in the Bookshop in the Castletroy Shopping Center were particularly helpful, so I think that they should be awarded some points. Lacking scruple? Yes, I am!

Nicholas reminded me that I need to guess.
Picture 1- It looks like the corner of a tennis court, so maybe the red thing is a container for tennis balls, or a huge Lego piece.
Picture 2- Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil. Is this in Germany? Are they looking at something related to a concentration camp?
Picture 3 – Looks like footprints in one of the campus buildings – they lead to a pub?
Q 1 – You walk to it – it’s close by – they sell funny food and strange lemonade – don’t know the name
Q 2 – To rent to whole thing or just ride? 2 Euros to ride
Q 3 – The Engineering Building
Q 4 – Costume party
Q 5 – From a hotel window in Germany
Q 6 – John Deere – Ankeny
Q 7 – I’ll guess 7
See you tomorrow!
